Balneology

The real thermal tourism like in many prestigious european cities does not exist yet in Madagascar or rather does not exist anymore because before the second world war the fame of Antsirabe was its hot springs which attracted persons even from abroad. The region is provided with about thirty thermal springs and the first one was discovered in 1878 by the Norwegian missionaries. Nowadays the Spa is dedicated to public health rather than tourism and allows visitors to take an hydro massage and a mud bath. The second top place of the malagasy balneology is Ranomafana with a heated swimming pool situated in the heart of the nature in a very beautiful woody region quite rightly nicknamed “the Country of Mists”.
